MEMENTO MORI - new album September 23rd

Mortality closes in.
Evils of fanatic religion.
21st century imperialism.
Destruction campaign against the earth.
Immortal idols pass away.
Cancer in our minds.
In our way of life.
In the veins of those we honor the most.
It is in our darkest times we realize how swiftly life can end.
We all die.
Everything dies.
Memento Mori.

In a time when threats of religious hostility and environmental decay loom heavily over the world, we have no choice but to acknowledge the inevitability of death. Not only does it spread fear, stigma and hatred, but it also reminds us of the grasp our own mortality has on us. Death is just a heartbeat away and our fear of the unknown is apparent now more than ever. Thus the title Memento Mori (Latin: remember that you must die).

For a long while, the album title remained undecided.
“Memento Mori was one of several options that we had on note for a long time. But then Lemmy died. And Bowie died. And all of a sudden, all these rock icons disappeared, one by one. People that have made their imprint on history and influenced us musically since childhood. It made a great impression on a personal level, and started a grieving process that influenced the making of the album. Suddenly it was very clear what the album title would be. “Remember, you must die”. Even immortal legends like Bowie and Lemmy don’t live forever”, comments singer, guitarist and songwriter Olav Iversen.

Musically the album dwell in a heavier landscape than its predecessor, Delusions Of Grandeur, with metal infused heavy rock containing clear progressive elements. The voices of Olav Iversen and Tony Vetaas are more present and insistent than ever.

Blastfest gig two days away

On Saturday, Feb 20th, Sahg performs at Blastfest for the second time, with what will be the first show on home turf since we opened for Iron Maiden at Koengen.

This will be our first hometown show featuring new guitarist Ole Walaunet and new drummer Mads Lilletvedt, and our first time ever to perform new material from the upcoming album, coming out later this year.

There's a first time for everything, and this time is it!

The new album is coming to life

We have started recording our new and 5th album. It has been a very inspiring process so far, and the songs have changed and taken new and unexpected turns along the way. We are extremely excited to see where it ends up, and look forward with great expectation to putting it out later this year.

Release date, album title, and more details are coming soon! In the meantime, here are some photos from the recording sessions, captured by photographer Torbjørn Schei.

Sahg announces a change in line-up, and welcome guitarist Ole Walaunet and drummer Mads Lilletvedt to the band.

Furthermore we're happy to tell you that the wait will soon be over:
There will be a new Sahg album out in the spring of 2016.

Ole Walaunet is an experienced performer and is held in high regard in the Bergen metal scene, with past and ongoing involvement in bands like Grimfist, Deride, The Batallion, and God Seed. He is highly acclaimed for his skills as a guitar player and composer. Ole joined Sahg as a session guitarist on their European tours with Clutch and Sólstafir in 2014/2015, and is now a permanent member of the band.

“The last two years Ole shared more time on stage with us than our original guitarist, so this was a natural step to take when Thomas Tofthagen decided to leave Sahg, with no hard feelings from either side. We are thrilled to finally include Ole as a permanent member.”
– Olav Iversen, Sahg

Mads Lilletvedt has a background from bands like Hellish Outcast, Byfrost and Solstorm. The previous drummer, Thomas Lønnheim, left Sahg due to personal reasons, and there is no bad blood between him and the band.

“Mads' expressive style of drumming brings a new edge to Sahg’s sound, and we are very excited to have him on board.”
– Olav Iversen

With the new line-up, Sahg is currently working on some exciting material for a new album, due out on Indie Recorings in the spring of 2016. The follow up to 2013’s critically acclaimed Delusions Of Grandeur, will continue in the vein of its predecessor, with atmospheric Classic Metal, tinged with Prog and cosmic, doomy Psychedelia.

Catch Sahg’s very first performance with the new line-up:
Thu Oct 1st, Trondheim Metal Fest, Trondheim, Norway

The autumn leg of our European tour, with Sólstafir and Obsidian Kingdom, kicks off in Colmar, FRA, on Nov 4th, and goes on for 12 consecutive dates through France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and Holland, before finishing off with a headline show at Harøy, Norway.

We are extremely excited to head out and play again, on what will be the final round supporting the ‘Delusions Of Grandeur’ album, before giving full focus on our next album. More news on this soon!

We are thrilled to be joining forces with the great SÓLSTAFIR on a European tour this November. These Icelandic savages stoked us with their atmospheric geyser rock the first time we toured together a couple of years ago. And with their great new album, ‘Ótta’, we can’t wait to strike the audiences across Europe with a forceful nordic assault together with these guys again!

We are also excited to share stages with Obsidian Kingdom, who will surely raise this experience to an even higher level.

So, we’ll see all you maniacs out there soon! Here is where you’ll find us:
